You’ve heard the term “real-time search.”

You’ve even seen real-time search results in Google. They’re mixed right in with standard (or should I say, static) search results under a new section called, “latest results”. The search pages automatically refresh/update these “real-time search” results from content published by social networking sites, blogs, news and other sites. It’s actually pretty cool to watch them change right before your eyes.

See example of real-time search results for Westminster Dog Show below.

These real-time search results are not displayed for every keyword search. They are typically only displayed for hot topics of the moment or day.

OK, so how can real-time search results help you and your business?

Think about it. Your business website or blog could receive a considerable amount of qualified traffic if you can contribute to a relevant hot topic of the moment.

Let’s use our example of real-time search results for the Westminster Dog Show. It’s been an extremely hot topic on the web the past couple of days. If you have a pet-related business, you could likely benefit from participating in this real-time search conversation, couldn’t you?

So, how do you optimize your tweets, facebook status updates, blog posts, online videos, press releases and such for real-time search results? Ah, that’s a post for another day…
